Fall

As summer ends and the colder temperatures creep in, fall is an exciting time to play pickleball. It starts getting darker earlier so if you want a pickleball game night, be sure any court you use has adequate lighting so you’re not playing in pitch blackness. Make sure to stay hydrated, even if the temperature is lowering. The worst thing you can do is overheat. Clothing should be light, with not too many layers (athletic pants, long-sleeved shirts). You want to balance the remaining heat with the oncoming cold. Another thing to note is leaves and other plant debris. Trees will be losing their leaves, so you might come across piles on your favorite court. If they become a problem, play indoors instead. You could slip on the leaves and hurt yourself, which no one wants!

Winter

Winter poses the question: should you play outside or inside? That truly depends on how you feel about the cold. Jacksonville and North Florida have indoor courts available, but if you want to continue playing outside, it’s vital to stay warm. We’re talking beanies, gloves, pullovers, and leggings. Anything that keeps you comfy without weighing you down in active play, as well as warm once the game’s over. When it comes to gloves, make sure they have a good grip so you can properly hold your paddle. You don’t want gloves that keep you warm but make you unable to play pickleball. Another thing to think about is the pickleball you’re using. Along with winter comes harsh weather, so use a ball that can withstand that. If the temperature is below 47 degrees F we recommend the Franklin ball over a Dura. You will break every Dura in your bag in about 30 minutes when the temperature gets low. If you’re going to play when it’s below freezing go straight to the Selkirk Hybrid ball. You’ll still get some bounce and it won’t crack nearly as easily as the other balls.

No matter what the temperature is, following these tips will guarantee a great time.
